The Ponomarev – Arakelov Mansion on Znamenka
On the tour, we will plunge into the mysterious world of Moscow mansions and the stories that these buildings have been hiding for more than a hundred years. We will visit an amazing mansion built by renowned architects who created in Moscow for merchant dynasties, admire the preserved interior, hear incredible stories related to this house, and try to discover some of its secrets.

Walking tour:
We will walk along Mokhovaya and Znamenka streets to the Ponomarev–Arakelov mansion, now the Library for Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, plunge into the mysterious world of Moscow mansions and the stories that these buildings have been hiding for more than a hundred years.
We will examine the exterior facade of the mansion, decorated with stucco in the form of plants and flowers, mascaron and cartouche, frieze in the form of a meander.

We'll find out:

- Why does Znamenka Street have such a name?
- The history of the construction of the Ponomarev-Arafelov mansion, and how the mansion is connected with the Moscow Hippodrome and the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg

Ponomarev - Arakelov Mansion Tour:
Passing through the halls of the mansion, we will see well-preserved decorations.:
- The front door, which has retained its appearance since the beginning of the twentieth century
- Columns lined with natural stone

- Grand staircase, with wall and ceiling bas-reliefs, cartouches and decorative columns
- Magnificent ceiling moldings that decorated the ceilings of one of the halls of the mansion, which retained its appearance under several owners.
- Window grilles that decorated the facade of the building, and now decorate the interiors of the mansion
- Bronze sculptures-lamps on marble pedestals by French sculptor Auguste Moreau
- Decor on the doors
- Oriental arcade with natural stone columns
