ON SPIRIDONOVKA STREET AND THE "FORTY MAGPIES" OF HIS WONDERS AND UNUSUAL DECORATIONS
The mansion of the Tarasov (Torosyan), Armenian merchants who settled in Moscow and became rich in trade, has become one of the most unusual buildings in Moscow, thanks to the genius of architect Ivan Zholtovsky. The mansion is built in the style of an Italian palace (palazzo). There is still debate about whether it is an exact replica of the Tiene Palace in Italy. The tour begins in the mansion on Spiridonovka Street, an amazing building created by Ivan Zholtovsky in the early twentieth century, for the famous Moscow merchant Daniil Aslanovich Tarasov. The murals on the ceilings of the mansion, created by the artist E. E., have been preserved to this day. Lancere, who later created panels of amazing beauty in the Moscow Metro, is not without reason that the metro is deservedly called an underground museum, in whose huge halls unique collections of architectural forms created by remarkable artists of the twentieth century are collected.
