WALKING TOUR ALONG NOVAYA BASMANNAYA STREET AND THE PROVE-KALISH ESTATE
There is a mansion on Novaya Basmannaya Street, behind an openwork iron fence that rivals the beauty of the house. This is the creation of architect Treyman, in the style of King Henry II, the style was not chosen by chance, since the mansion was built for the Provet family, whose ancestors fled from France to East Prussia, and then to Russia. Here they became famous as renowned merchants, industrialists and collectors. This is the estate of Fyodor Ivanovich Prove and Adela Ivanovna Prove-Kalish, brother and sister, the children of Ivan (Johann) Karlovich Prove, the son of a native of Prussia. His contemporaries knew him as a talented manufacturer, banker and philanthropist with a huge, sacrificial heart. For some time, the actress Vera Kholodnaya lived in this house.
